Mecox Meadow
Water Mill, NY
Overlooking protected agricultural land in Water Mill, New York, this contemporary residential landscape is designed as a quiet extension of the architecture and its extraordinary setting. Developed by Landelier Landscape Atelier, the landscape design emphasizes long views, clean geometry, restrained planting, and a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor living—an approach rooted in refined Hamptons landscape design.
A broad elevated deck wraps the residence and becomes the primary organizing element of the exterior spaces. Trees rise selectively through the deck, while sculptural crape myrtles are woven into the architecture to soften its horizontal lines and bring seasonal character to the property. The planting palette remains intentionally restrained, with grasses and simple mass plantings reinforcing the openness of the surrounding farmland.
At the center of the landscape is an elegant 60-foot-plus swimming pool aligned toward the agricultural views. Two sets of entry steps create balanced access, while an even water depth supports swimming and relaxed use throughout. A continuous bench runs nearly the full length of the pool, oriented toward the meadow beyond, creating a generous place to sit, gather, and take in the landscape.
Arrival is equally considered. A contemporary driveway and parking court are organized with crisp geometry and framed by an allée of elms, creating a clear, composed approach to the house while accommodating the practical requirements of daily use.
The overall landscape is modern, elegant, and intentionally understated—defined by strong axes, long views, architectural trees, grasses, and a limited material palette. Rather than competing with the surrounding agricultural landscape, the design frames it, allowing the openness and horizon of Water Mill and the Hamptons to become one of the property’s most important features.
