This residential landscape in Sag Harbor Village, New York transforms a traditional Hamptons property into a layered meadow garden combining native planting, woodland character, productive garden spaces, and carefully integrated stonework. Designed by Landelier Landscape Atelier, the project reflects a naturalistic approach to landscape design in Sag Harbor and the Hamptons, balancing ecological planting with a strong architectural framework.

The existing driveway was shifted toward the property boundary and the site grading subtly reorganized to give more space back to the garden. A central wildflower meadow by Meadow Lab replaces much of the conventional lawn, extending into a loose birch grove, pollinator planting, and an experimental beach-plum orchard. Existing mature trees, shrubs, ferns, and perennials were preserved or relocated wherever possible, allowing the redesigned landscape to retain the character of the original property.

More structured elements provide contrast to the naturalistic planting. A grid of six crape myrtles relates directly to the architecture of the house, while stone paths connect the meadow, vegetable garden, and existing white picket arbor. The original brick walkway was extended with irregular bluestone and softened with creeping groundcovers, creating a gradual transition between old and new materials.

The result is a distinctly Sag Harbor garden—informal yet considered, environmentally responsive, and designed to evolve over time. Meadow, native and pollinator-friendly planting, existing vegetation, and restrained hardscape come together to create a residential landscape that feels established within its Hamptons setting rather than newly imposed upon it.
